A World without Facebook
August 28th, 2008I came across this video, showing what life would be like without Facebook, very funny if you ask me, and scarily true.
I came across this video, showing what life would be like without Facebook, very funny if you ask me, and scarily true.
Before I start i guess i should explain the picture above. 22 years ago my family took me up a mountain in the town I live in Ireland and took the picture on the left, i think i was around two years old at the time. When we went back to Ireland this week we thought it would be kinda kool if we drove to the same place, to the same spot and take the same kind of photo as it was my birthday and the picture above is the end result. Ok Ok the picture is not exactly at the same spot but its the thought that counts right ;)
So me and Juli left from Amsterdam on the 16th to spend a week with family and friends in Ireland. It had been a while since i was last there, at Christmas i think so it was time that we went back. Exams and University had taken up most of my time last year and for some reason never found the chance to get back, but this is something i would like to rectify and start getting into the habit of popping back every now and then. In the week we were there i got to see the two new babies from both my cousins who happily gave birth to two little girls. Both of the kids are gorgeous and i could have stayed there all day to play with them but it seemed like we just were going from one thing to the other all day long without finding two minutes to relax. Im not complaining though, i enjoyed every minute of it.
The first day was spent celebrating my birthday with my family. My mum spent hours putting together a photo album of all the pictures she could find of me from when i was a kid right up to now. Looking back its amazing how we can change. I went through more than a few phases, from goth to punk, from pimples to hmmm no pimples ;) Thankfully those teenage years are over. My parents also got a great cake to celebrate both my birthday and me and Julis 5 year anniversary. After the presents we got all dressed up and went out for dinner which was followed by a few games of pool with my uncle in a small bar we’ve been to more than once. All in all it was a busy day and we went nice and early to bed as we were both exhausted.
Sunday was a day spent relaxing, eating good food and enjoying some drinks in a few bars around the town with family and friends onboard. It was a Sunday so there is not so much one can do other than have a few drinks in Ireland. Juli was loving being there as she got to eat her all time favourite food…coleslaw hehe. For some reason the germans havent gotten around to make the nice coleslow, instead we have the smelly sauerkraut.
On Monday juli finally got to go shopping and ended up getting a few things she liked. Me on the other hand spent my time sitting outside the shops with their shopping in hand waiting for them, a routine im all too familiar with. Got myself some good music though to add to the iTunes collection, which by the way is getting too big for the computer. My dad spent the day working but when he got home we both sat down and enjoyed our favourite kind of TV show…“Road Wars”, i really miss it now being back here in Germany.
Tuesday and Wednesday were spent taking a few trips around the “greener” parts of Ireland, like i mentioned before we went up the mountain to take the picture above and also to show Juli what its like here in Ireland. We went further down into Southern Ireland and visited a few castles, ate some ice-cream and stood on the beach/harbour. Juli enjoyed it and finally got to see the Ireland that she remembers from post cards and magazines hehe. The rest of the week was spent doing small trips, did more shopping for the ladies and spent more time with my family, but sadly didnt find the time to contact any of my friends there, but in saying that yesterday i booked some more flights and will be going back to Ireland in three weeks, initially for my dad’s birthday but also to see those people i missed first time round. All in all it was a great week, and one to remember. We were too well fed and are now having to do some exercise to lose the extra weight we put on ;) Im looking forward to getting back there within the next month, looking forward to meeting a few more people and also to the birthday party. I uploaded a few pics for everyone from our trip, the better ones ofcourse
Thanks for reading folks, i dont usually talk this much….see you all soon

Although Juli has already written a small post about Berlin so far i thought i would write something as well for the english peeps out there. So on Saturday night Juli had the idea to instead go straight away to Berlin, travelling over-night rather than going early in the morning on Sunday. The night trip was actually a lot of fun, we had crazy thunder and lightening nearly the whole way but it was fun just to have the roads empty.
We arrived in Berlin early sunday morning and slept most of that day. Then we got to spend some nice time with juli’s family, sitting outside enjoying the great weather here. We got to meet some new people, got to go to our favourite places within the city and have much more planned for the upcoming days.
Me and juli by the way celebrated our five year anniversary since being here. Heres to another five years ;)
Ill write a bigger blog post detailing exactly what we did as soon as we get home. Apart from that i hope everyone is well and enjoying the good weather, see you all soon and stay safe ;)
So far everything in Berlin is going really well, the weather is amazing, the people are great and me and Juli celebrated our 5th year anniversary today.
This is an image I took while on my trip around Berlin. The sky reminds me of the Apocalypse a bit…. Read the rest of this entry »
